IndiGo's international ambition: Orders 30 Airbus A350-900

India’s largest airline by market share, IndiGo, has placed an order for 30 Airbus A350-900s wide-body aircraft.

The company has also made agreements with Rolls Royce for 60 Trent XWB engines, which will power its new A350-900s.

The airline has also secured purchased rights for an additional 70 Airbus A350 Family aircraft. The deliveries of these aircraft are expected to start by 2027.

This strategic move positions IndiGo to directly compete with the national carrier, Air India, in the wide-body segment, especially considering Air India's operation of Airbus A350 aircraft as well.

Last year, in June 2023, IndiGo placed the largest-ever single aircraft order by any airline for 500 aircraft with Airbus.

This IndiGo order book comprises a mix of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft, the company also operates two Boeing 777-300ER which are on wet-lease from Turkish airlines.
